Another beautiful coastal town in the Costa Brava is Tossa de Mar. It is about 100km above Barcelona and 100km under the French border. Tossa de Mar is a romantic coastal town with again amazing beaches. The landscape continues into the sea which creates magnificent views of coral reefs and caves which makes it the perfect place for scuba diving. The medieval city centre has a 13th-century wall around with watchtowers, originally to protect the town from pirates. This piece of history was declared a national historic-artistic in 1931. Tossa de Mar was the background of a Hollywood film back in the 50s starring Ava Gardner. Ava Gardner was dating Frank Sinatra at the time and he visited her in Tossa de Mar during filming. The town got worldwide attention after there were speculations of an affair between Ava and her co-star Mario Cabré. Still after more than 70 years, Ava is still remembered for her role. There was even a bronze statue dedicated to her, it can still be admired today.
